The Shard

The Shard, also referred to as The Shard of Glass, is an impressive 95-storey skyscraper with a viewing gallery and open-air observation deck, The View from The Shard, on the 72nd floor. At a height of 244.3 metres (800ft) you definitely cannot miss it! The Shard is composed of restaurants, a viewing gallery and the Shangri-La Hotel. The Shard’s construction started in March 2009 and it was inaugurated on the 6th of July 2012. The View from the Shard, was opened to the public on the 1st of February 2013. The Shard was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano and it is jointly owned by Sellar Property Group and the State of Qatar. Entrepreneur Irvine Sellar had a vision to create a striking vertical city incorporating retail and office space, a hotel, apartments, restaurants and a public viewing gallery. Needless to say, thanks to Renzo Piano, his vision came to fruition.
