Tate Britain holds the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day. Tate first opened its doors to the public in 1897. Today it has four major sites and 70,000 artworks as a collective body of Galleries: Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St. Ives.
